Eoin Woods is a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London in the Department of Computing, where he teaches one day per week. He is also an independent software engineering consultant with over 30 years of experience in software architecture, legacy system modernization, and security. Woods is a member of the Software Engineering Practice group at Imperial and a visiting member of the Enterprise Computing Lab at the University of East London.
- Education: BSc, MSc, PhD in software engineering; Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS), Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered IT Professional (CITP); Fellow of the International Association of Software Architects (IASA).
His research interests focus on bridging the gap between industrial practice and academic research in software architecture. He advocates for modernizing legacy systems, sustainable ("green") software practices, and integrating security into architecture design. Woods is also a prominent speaker at international conferences like ICSA, ECSA, and JAX London, often discussing topics such as continuous architecture, legacy system tradeoffs, and software energy efficiency.
Scientific awards include the 2018 Linda Northrup Award for software architecture. As an author, he co-authored three books: Software Systems Architecture, Continuous Architecture in Practice, and Software Architecture Metrics, all addressing practical approaches to software architecture in modern development contexts.
