Eoin L. Brodie serves as Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Berkeley in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management with a joint appointment at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research investigates microbial ecology in natural and engineered environments through advanced molecular techniques.
The Brodie Lab develops phylogenetic approaches to analyze microbial community dynamics under environmental changes. Research integrates genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to study microbial interactions in diverse ecosystems including watersheds, compost systems, and petroleum reservoirs. Major projects examine: 1) Microbial source tracking in California watersheds 2) Thermophilic composting microbial dynamics 3) Microbial enhanced hydrocarbon recovery 4) Development of the PhyloChip microbial community analysis platform.
Current applied research focuses on water quality assessment, waste treatment optimization, and petroleum reservoir management through microbial community engineering. The laboratory maintains collaborations with environmental agencies and energy industry partners.
