Enrique Verdú Navarro is a full professor of Physiology at the University of Girona (UdG), Faculty of Medicine, and co-director of the Clinical Anatomy, Embryology and Neuroscience (NEOMA) research group. He is also the current coordinator of the doctoral program in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine and Health at the UdG Doctoral School.
He obtained his BSc in Biological Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1989 and completed his PhD in Neuroscience there in 1994 with the thesis “Variation of the regenerative capacity of the Peripheral Nervous System with aging” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Xavier Navarro Acebes.
His research spans:
- Neuroplasticity and regeneration of the peripheral nervous system
- Spinal-cord injury and repair strategies
- Physiology and pathophysiology of pathological pain
Between 2005 and 2009 he coordinated the PhD program in Neurosciences at UAB, and from 2015 to 2018 he served as Director of the Department of Medical Sciences at UdG. He is an active member of numerous scientific societies including SENC, FENS, IASP, APS, and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
