Enrique Chagoya is a Full Professor at Stanford University's Department of Art and Art History, holding an MFA from UC Berkeley (1987) and a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute (1984). His work explores cultural clashes, colonialism, and oppression through pop icons and symbols, informed by his upbringing in Mexico City and experiences living on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border and in Europe.

Chagoya's research interests span Comics, Contemporary Art, Digital Art, Drawing, Latin American and Caribbean Art, Painting, Printmaking, and U.S. Latinx Art. His exhibitions include retrospectives at the Des Moines Art Center (2007), Centro Museum ARTIUM (2013), and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery (2019).
Key awards include NEA Fellowships, a Guggenheim Fellowship (2021), and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Southern Graphics Council International. His work is held in major collections like MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and SFMOMA.
