Enrico Nardelli

Enrico Nardelli is a full Professor of Informatics at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata", affiliated with the Department of Mathematics. He serves as Past President of Informatics Europe (2018-2023) and directs CINI's National Laboratory on Informatics and School. Nardelli coordinates "Programma il Futuro", a project introducing basic informatics concepts to Italian schools that has reached approximately three million students since 2014.

His primary research focuses on Informatics Education and the interdisciplinary study of Informatics systems and their social impact through the Link&Think Research Lab and CINI National laboratory "Informatics and Society". Previously, he conducted significant research across multiple domains including algorithms, databases, geographical information systems, human-computer interaction, cooperative information systems, and bio-informatics. His work bridges technical informatics with societal implications and educational applications.

Professor Nardelli has received significant recognition for his contributions to informatics education:

• Best initiative in "School Education" category at the Italian National Prize for Digital Competences (2022)
• Innovation Champion awarded by the COTEC Foundation under the patronage of the Italian President (2022)

Nardelli coordinates "Programma il Futuro" which has transformed informatics education in Italian primary schools, emphasizing computational thinking. As director of the CINI National Laboratory "Informatics and School" and member of the "Informatics for All" coalition Steering Committee, he advocates for informatics as a foundational discipline in European education. His outreach includes public speeches, interviews, and dissemination articles on informatics education and the role of informatics in digital society.

He leads the interdisciplinary Link&Think Research Lab examining digital society through multiple perspectives and participates in the Vienna Manifesto on Digital Humanism, advocating for human-centered technological development that aligns with human values rather than allowing technologies to shape humans.
