Engobo Emeseh is a Professor and Head of the School of Law at the University of Bradford, UK. She holds a PhD from the Centre for Energy Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee, alongside a first-class degree from Nigeria Law School and a Distinction from the University of Wales Cardiff. Her career includes prior legal practice as a barrister and solicitor in Nigeria, where she was called to the Nigerian Bar. She is a former British Council Chevening Scholar and Ford Foundation (IFP) doctoral fellow, underscoring her academic excellence and international recognition.
Professor Emeseh specializes in environmental law and policy, focusing on regulation enforcement, environmental justice, corporate social responsibility, and the intersection of environmental norms with international economic law. Her research frequently addresses challenges in Africa’s natural resources sectors. She has contributed to knowledge transfer via initiatives fostering discourse and capacity-building in academia and beyond, and has advised organizations such as UNDP, the Africa Capacity Building Foundation, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa.
In teaching, she covers Environmental Law, Criminal Justice, and Human Rights at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and pioneered modules like Climate Change Law and Policy, International Petroleum Law, and Business, Environment and Human Rights. Her PhD supervision spans critical topics in environmental rights, trade law, and pandemic response frameworks.
Engobo has spoken at global conferences, including the WTUN Congress (2024), Nigeria Bar Association Annual Conference (2024), and the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Directions in Legal Education 2022. She has also been invited as a keynote speaker and panelist on sustainability in legal education and African legal systems.
Her grants and advisory work include leadership in curriculum innovation and collaboration with international institutions. She has established platforms for interdisciplinary dialogue and resource-sharing in law education. Current initiatives aim to integrate sustainability into legal pedagogy and enhance global legal frameworks for Africa’s resource governance.
