Ender Bulgun is a Professor in the Department of Textile Engineering at Dokuz Eylül University's Faculty of Engineering. She has established a distinguished academic career spanning over two decades, progressing from assistant professor in 1997 to associate professor in 2004, and achieving full professorship in 2009. Her academic journey includes significant contributions at Istanbul Technical University (2005-2007) and the Istanbul Fashion Academy (2008-2009).
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering from Ege University
- Master's degree in Textile Engineering (Ready-to-Wear option) from Ege University (1990)
- Doctoral degree in Ready-to-Wear from Ege University (1994)
- Additional studies in Textile Design at Dokuz Eylül University's Faculty of Fine Arts during graduate studies
Professor Bulgun's research bridges traditional textile engineering with cutting-edge technological applications. Her work demonstrates a clear evolution from foundational textile studies toward increasingly sophisticated integrations of artificial intelligence and smart technologies in fashion design. She has published 60 articles, with 34 appearing in international journals, establishing her as a significant contributor to her field.
Her recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on intelligent fashion systems, particularly the application of neural networks and genetic algorithms to fashion recommendation platforms and styling. There is also consistent research into specialized functional garments, especially protective clothing for firefighters, demonstrating practical applications of smart textiles in critical safety contexts.
Professor Bulgun maintains active research leadership through ongoing TUBITAK-TEYDEB and SANTEZ projects where she serves as both advisor and executor. Her administrative experience includes serving as ERASMUS coordinator at Dokuz Eylül University's Faculty of Engineering from 2010-2012, demonstrating her commitment to international academic collaboration.
