Emmerentie Oliphant is a Professor in the School of Social Work at Stephen F. Austin State University, affiliated with the College of Liberal and Applied Arts. She was the Buddy Zeagler Endowed Professor for Community-Based Research from 2018-2019. Her academic journey includes a Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Social Work, and a D Litt et Phil in Social Work from South African institutions.

Her research interests span family counseling, mental health, HIV/AIDS, international social work, cultural diversity, qualitative research, and program evaluation. She has collaborated on interdisciplinary projects in East Texas and South Africa.
