Emmanuelle Lerat is a CNRS researcher at the Laboratoire de Biométrie et Biologie Evolutive (LBBE), affiliated with Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1. Her research focuses on transposable elements (TEs) in eukaryotic genomes using comparative genomics and bioinformatics. Key projects include developing tools for TE detection (e.g., Look4LTRs), studying TE effects on gene expression, and analyzing their evolutionary dynamics. She holds an HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) from 2010 and has been a postdoc at the University of Arizona (2002–2004) and LBBE (2004–2005). She is an Associate Editor for *Genome Biology and Evolution* (2008–2023) and a Recommender for PCI Genomics since 2020. Her work spans collaborations on genome annotation, retrovirus activity in ruminants, and epigenetic impacts of TEs.
Research interests include TE dynamics, genome evolution, and their role in duplicated genes. Notable contributions include tools like TEtools and Modolo et al.'s method for horizontally transferred sequences. Her publications highlight advancements in understanding TEs' influence on gene environments and cancer-related epigenetic changes.
