Dr Emmanuel Momoh is a Lecturer in Civil (Structural) Engineering at the University of Wolverhampton, UK, affiliated with the School of Architecture and Built Environment under the Faculty of Science & Engineering. He has been serving in this role since August 2024, contributing to both teaching and research in sustainable and innovative structural engineering.
His educational background includes a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, where he received the Principal's Award for Most Outstanding Early Career Researcher in 2020. He also holds an MSc in Structural Engineering from the University of Sheffield and an MSc in Structural & Materials Engineering from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, along with a B.Eng in Civil Engineering from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi. He completed a Certificate in Principles of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the University of Aberdeen and is an Associate Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Dr Momoh's research focuses on sustainable construction materials, particularly natural fibre reinforced concrete and auxetic structures. His work integrates experimental testing and numerical modelling to develop eco-friendly reinforcement solutions using materials like oil palm broom fibres and waste-derived aggregates. He has published extensively on topics including bond behaviour, mechanical performance, and design considerations for low-cost, sustainable housing. His research aligns with circular economy principles by promoting the use of agricultural and industrial waste in construction.
The 15 most recent publications highlight a consistent trend in sustainable structural materials, with a strong emphasis on experimental validation, performance optimization, and practical application in low-cost housing. Keywords span civil engineering, materials science, and environmental sustainability, with sub-fields including natural fibre composites, auxetic materials, waste utilization, and mechanical characterization.
- University of Aberdeen Principal's Award for Most Outstanding Early Career Researcher (2020)
- Winner, University of Aberdeen 3-Minutes Thesis Competition (2019)
- Represented University of Aberdeen in UK-finals of 3MT
- Honourable Mention, Doctoral Research Awards 2020, Association of British Turkish Academics
Dr Momoh has mentored students and professionals through his roles as a lecturer and degree apprenticeship assessor. He has secured research experience through postdoctoral work at the University of Exeter and prior academic positions in Nigeria. His grants and research projects focus on sustainable materials development, structural innovation, and eco-friendly building practices. He is also a registered Civil Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (MNICE).
Dr Momoh leads research in sustainable structural systems, working with interdisciplinary teams on experimental and numerical projects involving auxetic composites and natural fibre reinforcement. His lab work includes large and reduced-scale testing, material characterization, and design guidance development for innovative construction solutions.
