Emmanuel Dormy

Emmanuel Dormy is a Professor at Ecole Normale Supérie since 2004 and a CNRS Researcher since 1999 (Directeur de Recherche since 2008). He previously held positions at Ecole Polytechnique as Associate Professor (2008-2020) and at Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (1999-2016). His international visiting roles include Trinity College, Cambridge (2017-2022).

This work combines asymptotic analysis with high-resolution numerical simulations to study phenomena like:

• Earth's core convection and magnetic field generation
• Wave breaking mechanisms in oceanography
• Eye formation in tropical cyclones
• MHD shear layer behavior in superconducting flows
• Numerical stability in geophysical simulations

His publications (1997-2020) span topics in rotating convection, boundary layer instabilities, and dynamo action, with methodological contributions to numerical analysis of geophysical systems.
