Emmanuel Amponsah

Emmanuel Amponsah serves as a Research Fellow at the Department of Planning within the College of Art & Built Environment at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He is actively affiliated with the SMUS-APRI research center and maintains a primary institutional presence through KNUST's Department of Planning.

His academic foundation stems from the University for Development Studies in Tamale and advanced training at KNUST's Department of Planning, establishing expertise in development-focused urban and transport research.

Dr. Amponsah specializes in urban and transportation planning with emphases on sustainable development, migration-translocality dynamics, land security, and policy evaluation. His work critically examines infrastructure challenges in Sub-Saharan African cities, particularly Ghana, integrating climate change considerations with transportation systems and urban governance. Current research explores decarbonization pathways, telecommunication mast siting compliance, and cross-border migration impacts on sustainable livelihoods.

Analysis of his 2022-2024 publications reveals consistent thematic focus: sustainable urban transport systems in Ghana (60% of output), land governance/security in West Africa (25%), and translocality-climate change intersections (15%).
