Emmanouil Tsakoumis is a Senior Research Engineer at Uppsala University’s Department of Organismal Biology, specializing in Physiology and Environmental Toxicology. He holds a PhD in comparative physiology and has extensive academic experience. His roles include Project Manager for the EU-funded RE-MEND initiative, Administrator of Junior Faculty, and Environmental Officer (Miljöombud) and Safety Officer (Skyddsombud) at the department. His work spans ecotoxicology, toxicology, and project management in environmental research, with a focus on molecular biology, fish ecology, and endocrine disruption.
His research interests include understanding how environmental factors impact animal physiology, particularly in fish species like zebrafish. He has led studies on leptin’s role in appetite and reproduction, transcriptional responses to environmental stressors, and conservation biology of endemic fish populations. Recent projects include analyzing methylomic/transcriptomic responses to light patterns in avian pineal glands and assessing fragmented river connectivity’s effects on fish reproduction.
Publications highlight collaboration with global teams, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. His work bridges basic science with applied environmental management, contributing to EU policy through project coordination. He actively promotes safety and sustainability practices within his department.
