Dr. Emmanouil Pyrgiotakis is a Lecturer in Finance at the Essex Business School (EBS) within the University of Essex. His research focuses on Corporate Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), and Textual Analysis in financial decision-making. He currently supervises four PhD students and has previously supervised Xiaoling Xu, who completed their doctoral studies in June 2025. Dr. Pyrgiotakis teaches modules including Portfolio Analysis, Risk Management, and Risk Management and Financial Institutions.
His research explores topics such as stock price synchronicity, green bond issuance, machine learning applications in bank merger prediction, and the impact of political risk on financial markets. He has published in leading journals like the Journal of Banking & Finance and European Journal of Operational Research.
In 2024, he secured a grant from PricewaterhouseCoopers for research on Greek firms’ survival rates and 'zombie firms.' His work bridges theoretical finance with practical applications, particularly in regulatory environments and textual analysis techniques.
