Emma Nortio is a University Lecturer in Social Psychology at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on multiculturalism, national identity negotiation, and intergroup interactions using critical discursive psychology approaches. She is actively involved in multiple research projects including the SINI initiative exploring inclusive national identity and the SOPU project analyzing Russian neighbor relations in Nordic countries. Nortio has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, with notable works on Finnish national identity discourse and far-right discourses on multiculturalism. She serves as a reviewer for the International Journal of Intercultural Relations and participates in academic networks like the ESSO research group. Her work bridges social psychology with artistic methods through projects like Puhekupla, combining science and art in migration discourse analysis.
Her research spans 2012–2024, with publications emphasizing qualitative methodologies and interdisciplinary collaboration. Current projects include the Self-modification promotion initiative (2022–2027) focusing on behavioral change strategies. Nortio has organized conferences such as the 20th Nordic Migration Research Conference and contributes to public discourse through media engagements like a 2018 interview on Yle's FOMO program.
