Emma-Jayne Proctor is an Associate Research Fellow/Lecturer at the University of Wollongong's School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy (2016–2022) and Bachelor of Medical Biotechnology (2012–2015) at the same institution. Her research focuses on host-pathogen interactions, particularly involving Streptococcus pyogenes and protein interactions critical to bacterial virulence. She explores molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis, protein chaperoning, and therapeutic design using advanced techniques like mass photometry. Proctor has secured funding for projects targeting streptococcal exotoxins and developing peptide therapeutics. She currently supervises a PhD project investigating novel host-pathogen interactions in Streptococcus pyogenes M1 UK lineage.
Research Interests:
- Streptococcal pathogenesis and virulence mechanisms
- Protein-protein interactions in host-pathogen systems
- Misfolded protein chaperoning and neurodegenerative disease
- Development of protein degradation therapies
Funding Grants (2024):
- Targeting Streptococcal Exotoxins: Rational Design of Peptide Therapeutics
- Pilot Research (Early Mid-Career Enabling Grant)
Teaching & Supervision: Involved in higher degree research supervision and contributes to molecular biosciences education at the university.
