Emma Francis is an Associate Professor in English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick. She joined the English Department in 2001 after lecturing at Warwick's Centre for the Study of Women and Gender, where she remains a member.
Research Interests:
- Victorian studies and feminist thought
- 19th-century British women's poetry (Amy Levy, Letitia Landon, Emily Brontë, Mathilde Blind)
- Intellectual interactions between Bloomsbury and the East End (1880-1920)
- Darwinian epiphany in literature
- Psychoanalysis in Victorian contexts
- Embodied knowledge and cultural theory
Teaching: She teaches undergraduate modules like EN227 Romantic and Victorian Poetry and EN328 English Literature and Feminisms. Postgraduate teaching includes Feminist Literary Theory, The Condition of England, and Psychoanalysis and Creativity.
Qualifications: BA, MA (University of Southampton), PhD (University of Liverpool).
