Emma Biglin is a Research Fellow in the Division of Cancer Sciences at the University of Manchester. She is part of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre and contributes to research in radiation therapy and dosimetry. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals focused on health and innovation.
Education:
- BSc in Human Biology (2011–2014), University of Huddersfield
- Postgraduate Diploma in Radiotherapy and Oncology in Practice (2015–2017), Sheffield Hallam University, with clinical placement at Castle Hill Hospital, Hull
Research Interests: Emma’s research focuses on developing biologically-relevant preclinical radiotherapy dosimetry phantoms. Her project aims to create zoomorphic mouse phantoms with novel detector technology to improve dosimetry standardization, reduce animal testing, and enhance reproducibility in cancer research. She collaborates with the NC3Rs to address ethical and scientific challenges in preclinical radiation therapy.
Research Outputs: Her work emphasizes advancements in small animal phantom design and dosimetry techniques, contributing to precision in radiation therapy and minimizing toxicity risks. These studies reflect trends in integrating engineering solutions with medical physics to optimize preclinical practices.
Lab/Team: Emma is part of a multidisciplinary team including Karen Kirkby (Group Lead), Amy Chadwick and Michael Taylor (Lecturers in Proton Therapy Physics), and other research associates like Thomas Mee and Sam Ingram. Team members can be contacted via institutional emails such as Karen.Kirkby@manchester.ac.uk and Amy.Chadwick@manchester.ac.uk.
