Professor Emma Baker is a clinical academic at St George's, University of London, with roles in education, research, and the NHS. She serves as Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and is the Clinical Vice President and Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society. Her clinical practice includes work as a Consultant Physician in Clinical Pharmacology and General Internal Medicine with a focus on multimorbidity and polypharmacy.
Her research focuses on ensuring optimal patient medication use, encompassing disease mechanisms, pharmacokinetics, clinical trials, polypharmacy, and pharmacogenomics. Key areas include epithelial transport in respiratory disease, COPD comorbidities, and airway glucose regulation during infection.
Professor Baker has received the National Teaching Fellowship award and multiple student-led teaching awards. She leads the UK's first BSc in Clinical Pharmacology and directs specialty training programs for Health Education England.
She chairs the South London Immunoglobulin Assessment panel and contributes to national medicine optimization committees while developing innovative services for complex medication management.
