Dr Emily Woodhouse is an Associate Professor in Interdisciplinary Environmental Anthropology at the Department of Anthropology, University College London. Her work bridges environmental anthropology and conservation science to examine social dimensions of biodiversity conservation and development interventions.
- PhD in Conservation Science from Imperial College London (2012) with co-supervision from Aberdeen University
- Postdoctoral researcher on the ESRC-DFID funded 'Measuring Complex Conservation Interventions' (MCCoI) project
Her research focuses on rural people's environmental relationships, impacts of conservation on livelihoods, gender dimensions of ecosystem governance, and development in agro-pastoral systems. Publications address conservation social science transparency, Maasai women's empowerment, and human well-being metrics in conservation contexts.

- Advising: Supervises PhD students on topics spanning biocultural heritage, human-wildlife coexistence, and more
Key funded projects include the UCL Climate Crisis Grand Challenge Small Grant (2024-25), UCL Global Engagement Fund (2021-22), and National Science Foundation/ESRC grants (2017-21). She convenes UCL's MSc Environmental Anthropology program and teaches modules on People and Conservation, Resource Use, and Biological Anthropology.
