Emily Ryan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Division of Materials Science and Engineering at Boston University. She serves as a Founding Faculty Member of the Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences and an Associate Director of the Institute for Global Sustainability. Her research focuses on computational modeling of energy systems, including batteries, fuel cells, and carbon capture technologies. Ryan leads the Computational Energy Laboratory, emphasizing sustainable energy solutions and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Research Interests: Ryan’s work spans heat transfer, electrochemistry, reactive transport in porous media, and computational modeling of energy systems. Her team develops advanced models to study lithium metal batteries, fuel cells, and carbon capture systems. Key projects include analyzing solid electrolyte interphase layers and dendrite growth suppression mechanisms.
