Dr Emily Ottley is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Winchester's Department of Law within the Faculty of Law, Crime and Justice. She holds a First Class Honours Bachelor of Laws from the University of Surrey, a Master of Arts in Medical Law (Distinction) from King’s College London, and a PhD in Law from King’s College London (2024). Her research focuses on legal and ethical issues surrounding abortion access, particularly third-party interference in pregnancy decisions. She has contributed to leading medical law journals and provided expert analysis for legislative bodies like the Scottish Health, Social Care and Sport Committee. Emily is a Fellow of Advance HE and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (Distinction).
Her teaching expertise spans Medical Law, Child Law, Tort Law, Equity and Trusts, and The English Legal System. Key research outputs include international comparisons of safe access zones legislation, analyses of silent prayer protests near abortion clinics, and evaluations of posthumous fertility treatment legal frameworks. Emily’s work bridges legal scholarship with practical implications for healthcare access and patient rights.
