Emily Moir

Dr. Emily Moir is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Justice at the University of the Sunshine Coast. As an environmental criminologist, she investigates how environments enable criminal opportunities and citizen-led crime control mechanisms.

Her research examines guardianship models applied to burglary prevention, elder abuse intervention, workplace exploitation, and parolee reoffending reduction. She has directed multiple community safety projects funded by Relationships Australia, Life Without Barriers, Queensland Police Service, and local councils.

Dr. Moir serves on the Editorial Board of Security Journal and the Management Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology. Her awards include the Adam Sutton Crime Prevention Award (2020) for impactful research contributions.

Recent publications analyze sexual violence against elders, Business Improvement Districts' crime impacts, and probation supervision strategies. Her work emphasizes practical, community-based solutions to crime prevention.
