Emily Leonard

Emily Leonard is an ecologist and environmental educator at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), where she teaches Natural Science courses such as Entomology, Animal Behavior, and Patterns in Nature since January 2020. She also serves as the Restoration Ecologist at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary and Arboretum, applying science-informed management practices to restore and maintain its 90-acre ecosystem.

Her research focuses on ecological interactions in wetland environments, particularly arthropod assemblages in invasive and native vegetation of the Great Salt Lake. She integrates field-based restoration work with academic teaching to promote environmental stewardship.

Emily’s professional roles bridge ecological education and applied conservation. She contributes to habitat restoration at Hawthorn Hollow while fostering student engagement with natural systems through MIAD’s science curriculum.
