Emily J. Bell is a Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia Journalism School and Director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism. She is affiliated with Columbia University's Data Science Institute Executive Committee. Her research focuses on digital media, journalism trends, and data-driven strategies.
Education: Master’s Degree in Jurisprudence from Christ Church, Oxford University (1987).
Professional Background: Former Director of Digital Content at Britain’s Guardian News and Media (2006–2010), and Editor-in-Chief of Guardian Unlimited (2001–2006). During her tenure, the Guardian won multiple awards for its website innovations and digital content.
