Emily Humble is a Lecturer in Conservation Genomics at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and the Roslin Institute. She leads research projects on endangered species genomics and contributes to the Masters Programme in Wildlife Conservation Genetics with Wildlife Forensics.
- PhD in Genomics, Bielefeld University & British Antarctic Survey
- MRes in Biodiversity Informatics and Genomics, Imperial College London
- BSc in Biology, University of Sussex
Her research focuses on using genomic tools to address conservation challenges in marine and terrestrial species. Key projects include studying scimitar-horned oryx, manta rays, and critically endangered guitarfish and wedgefish through population genomics and phylogenomics. She employs handheld sequencing technologies for real-time fisheries monitoring and wildlife law enforcement in Sri Lanka.
Recent publications highlight her work on species delimitation in mobulid rays, genetic diversity in red squirrels, and climate-driven conservation challenges in white beaked dolphins. Her research spans evolutionary processes, inbreeding, and adaptive divergence, with applications in wildlife forensics and capacity building.
