Emily Hoge is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Clemson University, located within the College of Arts and Humanities. Her office is in Hardin Hall 118. She holds a Ph.D. (2023) and M.A. (2019) from the University of California, Berkeley.
Her research focuses on Soviet and post-Soviet history, gender studies, and disability studies. Central to her work is the study of disabled Soviet Afghan War veterans and their post-Soviet integration challenges. Her current book project, Combat Brotherhood: Disabled Soviet Afghan War Veterans, Organized Crime, and the Mafia State, examines how veterans navigated organized crime networks after the Soviet Union's collapse.
Her recent conference presentations explore themes of veteran identity, trauma, and Cold War comparisons. Though no awards are listed here, her work bridges military history with disability studies in innovative ways.
