Emily Haney-Caron

Emily Haney-Caron is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. She holds dual licenses as a clinical psychologist in New York and attorney in Pennsylvania. Her expertise spans juvenile legal systems, adolescent development, and forensic psychology.

Education: PhD (Clinical Psychology, Forensic Concentration) and JD from Drexel University; MS (Clinical Psychology) from Drexel; BA (Psychology) from Columbia University and BA (Modern Jewish Studies) from Jewish Theological Seminary.

Research focuses on juvenile justice system alignment with adolescent capacities, including false confessions, Miranda comprehension, and developmental immaturity. She examines legal policies affecting youth, such as fines/fees and school-to-prison pipeline dynamics. Her work has been featured in New York Times, Washington Post, and MSNBC.

Publications include peer-reviewed studies on juvenile justice health, legal policy reports, and legal advocacy documents. She co-authored influential legal briefs on youth interrogation protections and court fee waivers. Her lab, YouthLawLab, bridges research, practice, and policy in juvenile justice systems.
