Emily Gleason is a Teaching Professor and Faculty Director of the Teacher Leadership program at the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education. She is also an affiliate faculty member at the Renée Crown Wellness Institute, where she contributes to the Trust and Belonging study through the Circles de Confianza phototestimonio project with local youth.
- PhD in Language, Literacy, and Culture from University of California Berkeley
- Master’s in English Literature
Her research focuses on teacher leadership, social justice in education, and community-based learning. She specializes in qualitative research methods and literacy development, particularly in underserved and rural communities. Over the past 20 years, she has built university-community partnerships to support youth identities and educational equity.
Emily co-designed an online Teacher Leadership degree with seven stackable certificates in collaboration with NE Colorado BOCES, serving teachers across rural, suburban, and urban schools. She leads the annual Capstone experience for teacher leaders and teaches undergraduate courses on adolescent learning and development.
At the Renée Crown Wellness Institute, she investigates trust and belonging through phototestimonio, amplifying youth voices in community-based spaces. Her work integrates design thinking to address systemic inequities in education.
