Emily Gates is an Associate Professor in the MESA department at Boston College's Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Her work focuses on evolving evaluation theory to support complex social change, particularly large-scale systems transformations. She holds a PhD and Ed.M from the University of Illinois and a B.A. from New College of Florida.
Research interests include systems thinking, ethics in evaluation, and equity-centered methodologies. Key contributions include co-authoring Evaluating and Valuing in Social Research and co-editing systems-informed evaluation case studies.
Recent grants include leading the SCENE Collaboration ($60K) and contributing to CodePath.org's research ($1M+). Her work addresses evaluation ethics, socio-ecological systems, and transformative change mechanisms.
