Dr. Emily Day is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware's College of Engineering. Her research focuses on developing nanoparticles for precision medicine applications, including drug delivery, gene regulation, and phototherapy. She holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Rice University and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Oklahoma.
Her work spans translational nanomedicine, with emphasis on targeting aggressive cancers, hematologic disorders, and reproductive health conditions. Key areas include nanoparticle design for targeted delivery, light-activated therapies, and biomimetic coatings to enhance biocompatibility. Dr. Day's lab integrates principles from materials science, biology, and medicine to advance clinical applications.
Recent research highlights the safety of vaginally administered nanoparticles during pregnancy and the use of biomimetic nanoparticles for homotypic cancer targeting. Her team also explores membrane-wrapped nanoparticles for RNA interference and photothermal therapy.
