Antonio Topete Camacho is a Ramón y Cajal researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela's Department of Particle Physics, affiliated with the Materials Institute (iMATUS) and the Strategic Grouping in Materials (AEMAT). He holds a PhD from the same institution (2013), focusing on hybrid nanoplatforms for theranostic applications under Professors Víctor Mosquera Tallón, Silvia Barbosa Fernández, and Pablo Taboada Antelo.
His research emphasizes nanomedicine, biomedical engineering, and materials science, particularly in cancer therapy using nanoparticles. Key areas include gold nanoshells, chitosan-based carriers, and photothermal/photodynamic therapies. Collaborative projects involve protein-nanoparticle interactions, antibacterial nanomaterials, and targeted drug delivery systems.
Notable contributions include evaluating genetic risk factors for breast cancer in Mexican populations and developing polymeric micelles for dual-drug delivery. His work bridges fundamental materials science with translational oncology applications, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches in nanotechnology and biomedical research.
Current affiliations include the Colloid and Polymer Physics Group (GFCP), where he investigates nanoparticle design and biocompatibility. His research has implications for precision medicine, cancer diagnostics, and regenerative therapies.
