Emily Cheng is a Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College and a Member at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), where she leads the Cheng Lab focused on molecular mechanisms of cell death and their implications in cancer. Her work bridges basic science and translational research in oncology, immunology, and cell signaling.
Her research centers on understanding apoptosis, immunogenic cell death, and epigenetic regulation in tumorigenesis. Using techniques such as quantitative proteomics, genome-wide screens, single-cell omics, and mouse models, her lab investigates how dysregulation of BCL-2 family proteins and epigenetic modifiers like SETD2 contribute to cancer progression and therapy resistance. A major focus is on enhancing anti-tumor immunity through targeted induction of immunogenic cell death.
The selected publications reflect a strong trajectory in elucidating core apoptotic pathways, modeling BCL-2 family interactions, overcoming drug resistance in lung cancer, and uncovering epigenetic vulnerabilities in kidney cancer. Her work has significant implications for developing precision cancer therapies, particularly involving BH3-mimetics and combination immunotherapies.
