Dr. Emilija Gagrčin is a Researcher at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies, University of Mannheim, under the Chair of Prof. Dr. Teresa Naab. She holds a Ph.D. from the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and Free University of Berlin (2023), focusing on political participation and citizenship norms in digital environments. Her research investigates the interplay between social, normative, and infrastructural dimensions of digital political communication, emphasizing democratic resilience. She employs mixed methods including surveys, discourse analysis, and social network analysis.
She is affiliated with the Digital Political Inequality Lab (UCSB), Weizenbaum Panel (Berlin), and the ERC PREPARE project (Bergen). As Chair of YECREA’s managing board, she advocates for early-career scholars within the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA). Her work bridges theoretical insights with practical implications for democratic societies.
Her recent articles explore epistemic inequalities in democracy, algorithmic literacy, and the evolution of social media’s political narratives. Key themes include digital citizenship, participatory inequality, and the ethical dimensions of online intervention. While no formal awards are listed, her active roles in professional networks highlight her contribution to advancing communication studies.
Dr. Gagrčin’s advisory work and grants remain unspecified, though her lab affiliations suggest collaborative research efforts. Her current projects aim to address data harms, algorithm dependency, and the evolving role of digital platforms in democratic processes.
