Emiliano PAGNOTTA is an Associate Professor of Finance at Singapore Management University (SMU), where he also serves as Co-lead of the Digital Business Research Peak. Previously, he held roles at Imperial College Business School (2014-2021) and New York University Stern School of Business (2009-2014). He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University (2009), alongside M.A. degrees from Northwestern and Universidad de San Andres, and a Licentiate in Economics from Universidad de Buenos Aires (2002). His research focuses on liquidity, fintech innovations, blockchain technologies, and financial market microstructure, with notable contributions to cryptocurrency valuation and insider trading regulations.
Key research interests include Bitcoin/Blockchain security, decentralized finance (DeFi), asset pricing frictions, and the impact of legal frameworks on financial markets. His work has been recognized through awards such as the Lee Kong Chian Fellowship and the Best Crypto Economics Paper Award. He has published in top journals like The Journal of Finance and Econometrica, addressing topics ranging from high-frequency trading dynamics to systemic risk in fragmented markets.
Emiliano’s academic service includes organizing conferences on financial frictions and advising on regulatory policies. He actively engages in digital transformation initiatives through SMU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business.
