Emiliano M. Catan is the Catherine A. Rein Professor of Law at New York University School of Law. He joined the faculty in 2014 and specializes in corporate governance, corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions. His research bridges law and economics, focusing on empirical and theoretical analyses of corporate structures and financial regulations. Catan earned his law degree from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (2003) and an MA in economics from the same institution (2007). He holds a PhD in economics from NYU (2014) and an LLM in Corporations from NYU Law (2010).
His courses include Corporate Finance, Corporations, and Iconic Delaware Cases Seminar. Notable awards include the George Colin Award (2010) and the Gold Medal for academic excellence (2003). His work examines legal frameworks for mutual funds, anti-takeover statutes, and corporate governance reforms.
Catan’s research output emphasizes real-world applications of legal principles in corporate finance and governance. His articles address shareholder behavior, regulatory impacts on mergers, and the interplay between law and economic outcomes.
