Prof. Dr. Emile Wennekes is a Chair Professor of Musicology at Utrecht University’s Department of Media and Culture Studies. His research spans Music and Media, Cultural History of the 19th Century, and the Post-War Remigration of Jewish Musicians. He co-edits major publications like The Palgrave Handbook of Music in Comedy Cinema and has repositioned Utrecht’s Musicology Department into an internationally recognized institute.

His recent work explores comedy cinema soundtracks, film music affect, and global cultural contexts. Wennekes’ expertise includes analyzing jazz integration in films, synchronizing soundtracks, and post-war musical repatriation.
