Emelie Engström is a Senior Lecturer at the LTH School of Engineering in Helsingborg, part of Lund University, and a member of the Department of Computer Science. She is affiliated with the Software Engineering Research Group and ELLIIT (the Linköping-Lund initiative on IT and mobile communication). Her roles include contributing to the LTH Profile Area: AI and Digitalization and the LU Profile Area: Natural and Artificial Cognition. She is also involved in the NEXTG2COM Vinnova Competence Centre.
Engström's research focuses on methodologies for large-scale industrial software development, emphasizing empirical methods and tools for continuous quality assurance of complex systems. Her work bridges theory and practice, addressing challenges in software engineering processes and compliance with emerging regulations like the AI Act.
Her recent research explores AI compliance challenges, industrial adoption of machine learning for bug report analysis, and software analytics. These studies reflect her commitment to advancing practical software engineering solutions through empirical and analytical approaches.
Engström has received notable awards, including the Distinguished Reviewer ICSE 2018 and Best Paper Awards in 2015 and 2010. She actively supervises PhD students such as R. Gupta and P. Palesetti, contributing to projects like AI Alignment through Continuous Operational Testing and AI-Driven DevOps Engineering. Her involvement in initiatives like the NextG2COM Competence Centre underscores her role in fostering innovation in software engineering and digitalization.
Engström’s work extends to editorial roles, including serving on the editorial board of ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, and peer-review activities across leading conferences and journals.
