Emel Sokullu is an Assistant Professor at Koç University Faculty of Medicine and a researcher at the Koç University Center for Translational Medicine Research (KUTTAM) since 2019. Previously, she held an academic position in the Department of Bioengineering at Izmir Katip Çelebi University Faculty of Engineering Sciences (2013–2019). Her work spans biophysics, neuroscience, and biomedical engineering with a focus on healthcare innovations.
- PhD in Bioengineering (Ege University, 2010)
- MSc in Materials Science and Engineering (Izmir Institute of Technology, 2006)
- BSc in Physics Engineering (Istanbul Technical University, 2004)
Sokullu’s research bridges biophysics and neuroscience, emphasizing neurodegenerative disease models, neurofeedback systems, blood-brain barrier mechanisms, and 3D tissue engineering. She has pioneered nanocarrier systems for targeted brain drug delivery and neuromodulation techniques like transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS).
Scientific Recognition:
- TÜBİTAK BİGG program grant
- TTGV and Acıbadem University Incubation Center awards for SOLAB R&D
