Emanuele Di Lorenzo

Emanuele Di Lorenzo is a Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at Brown University. He previously held roles as Professor and Director of the Ocean Science & Engineering program at Georgia Tech (2004–2022), which he co-founded in 2016. He is also Chairman and co-founder of Ocean Visions, an organization dedicated to ocean-based climate solutions, and co-founded the United Nations Ocean Decade Collaborative Center for Ocean-Climate Solutions in 2022. His research focuses on ocean-climate dynamics, marine ecosystems, and coastal resilience.

Education: Ph.D. in Ocean and Climate Sciences (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, 2003); B.S. in Marine Environmental Sciences (University of Bologna, Italy, 1997).

Research interests include large-scale ocean dynamics, climate impacts on marine ecosystems, and transforming scientific knowledge into actionable solutions. He has led international initiatives such as the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) and contributed to global climate assessments. Notable awards include the Class of 1964 Teaching Award (Georgia Tech, 2012) and Sigma Xi Young Faculty Award (2009).

Leadership roles include co-directing the Ocean Vital Signs Network at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and advising on global ocean monitoring systems. His work bridges academia, policy, and innovation to address climate challenges through ocean solutions.
