Emanuele Amo is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Human Geography at Aberystwyth University's Department of Geography & Earth Sciences. He previously served as an Associate Lecturer at Aberystwyth University and as an Associate Researcher at the University of Eastern Piedmont's Department of Economics and Business Studies.
His educational background includes a PhD in Human Geography from Aberystwyth University (funded by the AberDoc Scholarship), an MSc in Human Geography from the University of Bristol, and a BA in Humanities from the University of Turin.
Amo's research centers on rural and political geography, specifically examining how rural spaces are produced, contested, and mobilized through political and social processes. His work investigates rural discontent, spatial injustice, and their connections to disruptive politics, with particular focus on agri-food systems, Slow Food movements, and mountain regions in Italy. His research employs qualitative methods to analyze rural-urban relations, food sovereignty, and the politics of place.
His publication portfolio demonstrates consistent scholarly output with emerging influence, particularly in the fields of rural geography and food studies. His most recent work examines mountainness politics through Alpine cheese production, Slow Food-place relations in Abruzzo dairy communities, and translocal assemblages in food sovereignty movements.

Amo currently leads research activities within the five-year Rural Spatial Justice Project, funded by a European Research Council Advanced Grant under the UKRI Frontier Research Guarantee. This project investigates how rural discontent and perceptions of spatial injustice shape dynamics of disruptive politics across Europe. His work contributes significantly to Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable communities, responsible consumption, and reduced inequalities.
