Prof. Dr. Emanuel V. Towfigh is a Professor of Law & Economics at EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht in Wiesbaden and Chair of Public Law, Empirical Legal Research, and Legal Economics at EBS Law School. He is also Vice Dean of Research at EBS Law School and a Max Planck Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. His academic roles include leading the Stiftung Mercator-funded Center for Diversity in Law and directing the BRYTER Center for Digitalization & Law.
He holds a doctorate (Dr. iur.) from the University of Münster, where he also habilitated in 2014. His research focuses on constitutional law, legal economics, digitalization of law, and religious pluralism. Notable awards include the 2005 Dissertation Prize and the 2015 Münster University Society Prize.
His recent publications emphasize empirical legal studies, diversity in legal systems, and digitalization challenges. Key works include analyses of algorithmic decision-making in anti-discrimination law and the legal status of religious communities. He co-edits the German Law Journal and has contributed to international legal encyclopedias.
Prof. Towfigh advises on legal education reforms, including the Hessian constitutional right to education and digital legal education formats. His interdisciplinary work bridges law, economics, and social sciences, addressing modern challenges like migration policies and institutional reform.
