Em P John Mottershead is the Alexander Elder Professor of Applied Mechanics at the University of Liverpool, part of the School of Engineering within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds degrees BSc, PhD, and DEng. His research focuses on stochastic model updating, active vibration control, aeroelasticity, and full-field vibration analysis. He has led numerous grants, including projects on uncertainty quantification, aeroelastic behavior, and structural dynamics, funded by organizations like the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the European Commission.
He has received multiple accolades, including the 2021 'Aerospace' Best Paper Award and numerous plenary keynote invitations at international conferences. His editorial roles include Editor-in-Chief of Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing and Associate Editorships in key journals. Mottershead has supervised research on topics like stochastic model updating and vibration control, contributing to both theoretical advancements and experimental validations in mechanical engineering.
His professional activities include collaborations with institutions such as the University of Kassel and Politecnico di Torino, and he maintains editorial board memberships in leading journals like International Journal of Mechanical Sciences. His work bridges computational methods, experimental analysis, and uncertainty quantification in structural dynamics.
