Elti Cattaruzza is a Full Professor at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems. He holds key administrative roles as the Rector's delegate ad interim for Inclusion of Students with Disabilities and SLD and Vice-Rector for the Right to Education and Student Services. His research focuses on advanced materials science, nanotechnology, and optical materials, with particular emphasis on glass corrosion mechanisms, cultural heritage conservation, and energy-related materials such as photocatalysts and nanocomposites.
His work integrates experimental techniques like XPS/ESCA, Raman spectroscopy, and laser ablation ICP-MS to study material surfaces and structural properties. He leads research activities in labs at the Campus Scientifico via Torino and collaborates with the Research Institute for Complexity and Innovation Management. His contributions span publications in journals like NPJ Materials Degradation, European Physical Journal Plus, and Surfaces and Interfaces.
Key research interests include:
- Development of sustainable materials for energy applications (e.g., photocatalytic CO₂ reduction).
- Structural analysis of ancient and modern glass for conservation and validation of degradation models.
- Optical properties of rare-earth doped glasses and nanocluster composites.
Current projects include the Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem and Murano Pixel, exploring circular economy approaches for glass waste.
