Elsie Harper-Anderson is Associate Professor and Director of the Ph.D. program at VCU's Wilder School. Her research examines connections between economic and workforce development, entrepreneurship as a tool for reducing disparities, and macroeconomic impacts on urban labor markets, with emphasis on equity and sustainability.
Professional Engagement: Advisory board member for Richmond's Office of Community Wealth Building. Evaluated economic development programs for DOL, EDA, and HUD.
Research Impact: Studies entrepreneurial ecosystems' role in building inclusive economies and workforce policy effectiveness. Recent analysis addresses COVID-19's impact on Black workers and businesses.
Teaching: Courses on urban economic development policy, economic geography, and regional economies. Recognized with Wilder School's 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award.
