Dr. Elsayed Ali holds an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Ottawa and serves as an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Physics at Carleton University. He is a medical physicist at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre since 2015, specializing in radiation oncology physics. He completed his MSc and PhD in Medical Physics at Carleton University and holds membership in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (MCCPM).

His research focuses on: (1) palliative radiation therapy models, (2) cone beam CT advancements for patient positioning and dose reduction, (3) radiation-induced symptom dosimetry, (4) machine learning for bowel bag segmentation, and (5) Monte Carlo radiation transport methods. Collaborations include the National Research Council Canada and Le Laboratoire TIMC-IMAG (France).
He leads a research group comprising radiation oncology residents, graduate students, and undergraduate/co-op participants. Dr. Ali contributed to AAPM Task Group 195 on Monte Carlo reference datasets and is active in the AAPM Imaging in Treatment Planning Working Group.
