Elsa Fontainha is a Professor at the Lisbon School of Economics & Management (ISEG), part of Universidade de Lisboa. Her research focuses on economics of education, public policy, labor markets, and gender studies. She has supervised numerous master’s theses addressing topics like youth unemployment, gender equity, and pandemic impacts on education.
Education: PhD in Economics from ISEG (1997). Teaching responsibilities include courses on social exclusion, education economics, and general economics.
Key research interests span social cohesion, household financial behavior, and the socioeconomic impacts of crises. Her work frequently examines EU policy contexts and Portugal’s unique challenges, with a focus on structural economic changes and demographic dynamics.
Recent articles analyze gender disparities in academic collaboration, post-pandemic labor market policies, and municipal gender equality indices. She has also contributed to studies on educational mobility’s role in EU competitiveness and innovation patterns in traditional industries.
