Elodie Douarin is an Associate Professor in Economics at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), University College London. Her research focuses on applied micro-economics, transition economics, cultural and institutional economics, and the consequences of violence. She holds a PhD from the University of London (2008) and prior degrees from French institutions. Dr. Douarin co-edited the Palgrave Handbook of Comparative Economics (2021) and has been a leader at SSEES, directing the Centre for Comparative Studies of Emerging Economies (2013–2019) and co-founding the Friday Association for Institutional Studies.
Her academic career includes roles at Imperial College, SOAS, and the University of Sussex. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Recognised Research Supervisor. Douarin’s research explores socio-economic development, political economy, and gendered effects of conflict, with notable work on post-communist transitions and institutional legacies.
Key areas of expertise include public attitudes toward markets, tax morale, and the interplay between cultural norms and economic behavior. She collaborates widely, engaging with the Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty reduction, health, economic growth, and inequality.
