Dr. Elnur Babayev serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, he integrates clinical practice with leadership of a fundamental science laboratory focused on reproductive mechanisms.
Education:
- MD, Istanbul University (2011)
- MS, University of Oxford (2012)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Yale University, Reproductive Science (2015)
- Residency, Northwestern University, Obstetrics and Gynecology (2019)
- Fellowship, Northwestern University, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (2022)
His research centers on ovarian aging, egg quality dynamics across the reproductive lifespan, gene therapy applications in reproductive tissues, and environmental impact on fertility. Current investigations address molecular pathways of reproductive decline and therapeutic interventions for fertility preservation, particularly in aging and environmentally stressed contexts.
2025 publications demonstrate concentrated expertise in reproductive aging diagnostics, environmental stressors (heat, phthalates), and novel therapeutics like salidroside. These studies bridge molecular biology, toxicology, and clinical reproductive medicine through transcriptomic analyses, animal models, and systematic reviews of ovarian function.
Dr. Babayev leads a research team investigating fundamental reproductive mechanisms at Northwestern, serving as Associate Editor for Fertility and Sterility (2024–present) while maintaining active membership in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. His laboratory mentors trainees in ovarian biology and environmental reproductive health, supported by external research funding including industry collaborations with Merck KGaA.
