Elly Nedivi is the William R. and Linda R. Young Professor of Neuroscience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), based in the Neuroscience Complex. She holds a PhD from Stanford University (1991) and a BSc in Biology and Biochemistry from Hebrew University, Israel (1982). Her research focuses on brain circuit plasticity, elucidating the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying synaptic remodeling in response to activity, using genetic and in vivo imaging approaches.
Her work spans developmental and adult plasticity, including studies on synaptic stabilization, myelin adaptation, and aging-related structural decline. She leads the Nedivi Lab, which integrates genetic, proteomic, and systems-level approaches to understand neural circuit dynamics.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to understanding thalamic circuitry, proteome analysis techniques, and the molecular basis of bipolar disorder risk. Notable awards include AAAS Fellow (2016), the AFAR Mid-Career Award (2007–2011), and multiple teaching awards recognizing her educational impact.
- Awards: Over 15 honors including Sloan and Ellison Fellowships, AAAS leadership roles, and innovation grants.
- Lab Focus: Synaptic and neuronal remodeling, activity-dependent gene expression, and structural plasticity in health and disease.
